How We Do It
- We use ¾" hardwood core plywood for our cabinet boxes and shelves
(marine grade for summer kitchens) and we both staple and screw them together for
superior strength. All of our doors and moldings are built from select grade
hardwood.
- All cabinets are hand cut & built, custom sized to fit a custom design. You
never pay for non-standard dimensional changes ("brokers" charge $175-$225 per
dimension change) and there are no separate design fees.
- We use only heavy duty full-extension drawer glides (100 pound capacity) and
Blum concealed hinges.
- We can make any color stain imaginable, at no additional cost. We use conversion
varnish for a durable finish, and we use at least six coats, instead of the standard
two coats used by mass production manufacturers. Special effects are no problem, but
they will cost a bit more due to the additional labor used to achieve them.
- All of our wall cabinets have a finished bottom and crown molding. Our crown
moldings have a 2" return, and are screwed to the top of the cabinet, so that
the crown overlays the doors. There are no unsightly nail holes or putty marks.
This is the professional way to do it, rather than nailing the crown to the face of
the cabinet as most "brokers" do.
What About The Price?
Our ambition has always been to be the best at what we do, never the least expensive.
Compared to mass produced, particle board cabinets, with limited color choices, we are
definitely more expensive. If the "brokers" match my
"specifications" our prices are about even, but our products are superior in
every way. Design is one thing; execution of a design is quite another.
All dovetail drawers are not equal. All mortise & tenon stile " rail doors
are not equal. "Dovetail" and "mortise & tenon" describes
joinery techniques, but the quality is all in the execution, and mass produced
cabinetry does not compare to the attention to detail that we pay.
You can find another company that will in fact match our exacting standards and
superb quality of cabinetry; however, you will in all likelihood have to pay
significantly more. We feel that custom cabinets purchased from AWR represent the
best value for the dollar spent.
